To come to a full understanding of the depths of the lectionary for Sundays and Holy Days, one needs an array of tools. And that's exactly what Wilfrid Harrington op and Philip Gleeson or provide in this work. Wilfrid Harrington, lecturer in Scripture and author of more than twenty-five books on the Bible, builds here on the work he did in The Saving Word (1980-1982). First of all, there is a detailed scriptural commentary on the readings for each Sunday and Holy Day in Year A. This commentary is designed to bring out the riches of the text and to help both hearer and preacher to appreciate it more fully. In addition, there is an introduction to the Gospel of Matthew (the Gospel for Year A) and shorter introductions to other major biblical books. Further, Fr Harrington enhances his Christmastide commentary with an analysis of the Infancy Narratives and in Holy Week he sets out the distinctive features of the various Passion Narratives.
