An essential exploration of women's sexuality that will radically transform your sex life into one filled with confidence and joy.  After all the books that have been written about sex, all the blogs and TV shows and radio Q&As, how can it be that we all still have so many questions?  The frustrating reality is that we've been lied to – not deliberately, it's no one's fault, but still. We were told the wrong story.  Come As You Are reveals the true story behind female sexuality, uncovering the little-known science of what makes us tick and, more importantly, how and why. Sex educator Dr Emily Nagoski debunks the common sexual myths that are making women (and some men!) feel inadequate between the sheets.  Underlying almost all of the questions we still have about sex is the common worry: 'Am I normal?' This book answers with a resounding yes! We are all different, but we are all normal – and once we learn this, we can create for ourselves better sex and more profound pleasure than we ever thought possible.  Read Caroline Baum's Review Refreshingly sane sexual advice that puts female desire - and the lack thereof - into context; instead of fixating solely on the mechanics, American sex educator Dr Nagoski takes a more expansively holistic view. Based on extensive research and case histories she identifies key psychological obstacles to arousal including stress, idealised preconceptions and long held negative thoughts patterns that shut down the brain's pleasure receptors.  For most of her clients the common question is 'Am I normal?' Nagoski's answer is a resounding and reassuring yes: we are all normal, while all being different. Once that's established, she offers a practical suite of tips, to reinstate pleasure as an achievable goal.  About the Author Emily Nagoski is Wellness Education Director and Lecturer at Smith College, where she teaches Women’s Sexuality. She has a PhD in Health Behavior with a doctoral concentration in human sexuality from Indiana University (IU), and a master’s degree (also from IU) in counseling, with a clinical internship at the Kinsey Institute Sexual Health Clinic. She has taught graduate and undergraduate classes in human sexuality, relationships and communication, stress management, and sex education. She is the author of three guides for Ian Kerner’s GoodInBed, including the Guide to Female Orgasm, and she writes the popular sex blog, TheDirtyNormal.
